Last week we were at the Jedi Mind Tricks concert at Debaser Medis right around the corner of our “new” home on Södermalm. Luckily RA the Rugged Man was featured so it was well worth a visit. Since we were there mostly to see him perform, we didn’t get that many pics on the Jedi Minds, sorry! The place was really crowded and it was good to see some things are still alive, even this far up north. But please dear Swedes: Please learn how to handle the alcohol. Y’all drink one beer and get really nuts… Prost,
Philipp
This darkness is killing me! But what does it make me do? Oh yeah, it makes me spend some time in front of my turntables doing the thing I love…spinning records! Here is a small caption of how it sounds… Check more organized mixes on my soundcloud-profile.
I am always looking forward to the next episode of the Stones-Throw podcast that usually comes out once every two months. This one though is very special as it is part of the “Secondhand Sureshots project” where J-Rocc made a mixtape of as many reject vinyls (the ones in the one dollar bin that nobody wants…) as he could mange. Check the itunes-link here and enjoy!
Yesterday DJ Roc Raida of the world famous X-ecutioners passed away. He’s has been a great influence to me as a DJ and brought this whole turntablism/hip-hop-thing to the next level. Rest in peace, Roc!
Please let this be true! Today, I read it everywhere. “Pavement” are planing a reunion! Jipie! I was a huge fan and I don’t know how often I heard “Crooked Rain“. I sold all my records as we moved to Stockholm, a few hundreds and just a few are left. The “Crooked Rain” is one of them. So there is only one band missing: Ian MacKaye may be you will read this, because you are googling from time to time your name , I’m waiting for the “Fugazi“. Here are some video links: “Pavement – Hair cut“, “Fugazi – Waiting room“
Most of you know “Bat for Lashes” I think. If not, you have to check it out. I love the video of “What’s a Girl To Do“, great looking without spending 10000000. The best for dark cold nights. Love! A new single is out now and is called: sleep alone.
We had a really nice start at the “Popaganda” yesterday, even though Philipp did not feel so good. Everyone is kind of sick in Stockholm right now, so we didn’t stay that long. The “Lykkle Li” show was really fantastic and “Steve Aoki” rocked the crowd from the first second of his set. I didn’t know that “Lykkle Li” is that famous in sweden. But we noticed a few funny things for “continental-europeans”
Don’t get that wrong, cause we like to live here but we have to write it down
Everything needs a line. No matter what, get a number and wait. That was the first thing I learned in sweden. Be patient. For a festival that means:
a really long line for the toilett, I mean a really long line, maybe about 150 meters.
For the beer there was also a line with a line barrier like at the airport.
You can pay your beer with a creditcard
You have to show your ID to get in the beerarea. Yeah, right! There is a special area for people over 18 and only there it is allowed to drink alcohol and the line was really long to get in.
It was also a line for taking pictures even when you had a photopass
In the middle of the festival area there was one little smoking area
The backstage area was really empty. A couple of years ago I worked with some swedish artists and they were wondering why there were so many people at the backstage area at the festivals where we were. Hihi, now I know the reason. There was really nobody there. Funny, because I had the best parties in my life at the backstage area of so many festivals.
There were a lot of people with a coffee-backpack, like the backpacks with beer and other hard alk
But we also liked a few things:
A good point is, in Sweden I’m not the oldest person at the parties. There are a lot mid 30ties
The festival is really clean
Everyone had a really nice time
It was really in the middle of the city and good to reach
I think no ambulance is needed, because no stress
No police, just a few security people
The sound was great and the lightshow was fantastic
And hi, my meal was not like a festival meal!!!!!!! Good tasting indian food. Thanks Olle for the tipp.
Festivalseason is starting for us . We will be at the “Popaganda” in Stockholm this weekend. A bit late but better then nothing. I’m a bit excited about my first swedish festival, because I don’t know so many swedish artitsts. Of course I know “Lykke Li“, “MGMT” and yeah I’m happy to the the show of “Steve Aoki“. Hopefully the weather will be fine.
We always have a lot of events in front of our door. During summertime every weekend, sometimes even two events on one weekend. Some are really xxxxx, some are quiet nice. All of them are loud and make people sleeping on our steps. But there is one event I really love: “Turbojugendtage“. From all over the world people celebrate “Turbonegro“. I saw them a few times here in Hamburg and I also saw “Euroboys” live. I’m not wondering why I love the guys with the white heads on.
The uncle of Philipp has an appartment on Södermalm. In a way we forgot that Now he is offering his rooms to rent. And guess what!? As we googled for the address the first entry was this “Lykke Li – Little Bit LIVE Närkesgatan, Södermalm i Stockholm“. Funny because we can see the house in the video.
Yesterday a good old friend of mine threw a concert at the Fundbureau in Hamburg with one of my alltime favorite rap-duos EPMD. Performing classics like “Rugged’N Raw“, “You Gots To Chill“, “So Whatcha Sayin“, “Music” and many many more, they delivered one hell of a show!!! So if you’re near Cologne today, be sure you don’t miss the show in the Essigfabrik tonight!
Had to spend some time infront of my turntables again. At first this was supposed to be a 60min mix with this only being the intro. The only problem was finding enough tracks to put on it, too much bullshit coming out right now that I am not feeling… Check the 4 minutes on youtube, myspace or download. Enjoy!
On Saturday as we went out of our door we saw “Afrikan Boy” from London. He wore a crazy combi We didn’t take a picture… shame on us. But we did take a few pictures at his powerful show, where we met an old friend “Zohra” who was there with the Senegalese photographer Mamadou Gomis. Check her blog the next days for more pictures.
We had a really nice evening at the Waagenbau, full of good music, a warm vibe and the suprise guest “Samy Deluxe”. Reminded me of the good old time at the Schlachthof.
Thank you for this nice event Miss Marx, Nathalie Tineo, Phantom Black, Mounir and Hanife!
We love magazines. Wherever we are, we are grabbing what we can get. I like reading blogs, but it’s something different to read in a real magazine. Here are some of our favorites.
From left to right:
We decided to do a short trip to Copenhagen. Do you have a few tipps for us? We found out that there is a Weekday, Topshop and Norse for Philipp. Anything else?
We hung around at the Rheinaue in Bonn so often. We drank bier, did a lot of bbq and went to the Rheinkultur. Today I read that “No use for a name” is playing. Crazy, I heard them when I was 16 maybe 17. Would be nice to see them live.
